9 RV, boat and trailer plants closed, are closing or were folded into other plants in 2026
At least 9 RV, boat and trailer manufacturing sites in 7 states closed, are closing, were consolidated into other plants or were liquidated in 2026. They belong to six companies: Tiffin, Groupe Beneteau, Forest River, Winnebago, American Trailer World and American Tugs. Two closings are still ahead: PJ Trailers in Mount Orab, OH on Nov. 8 and Carry-On Trailer in Montross, VA on Nov. 29.
Why they are closing
- Demand. American Trailer World, which owns PJ Trailers and Carry-On, said the Montross closing "reflects current market conditions" and that it is aligning "its manufacturing footprint with current market demand, which he said has changed in the past two years," Virginia Business reported. The PJ Trailers closing "reflects the economic realities of the market," Plant Services reported.
- Boating demand and the Middle East. Groupe Beneteau closed its Four Winns plant in Cadillac, MI, citing "structural weakness in the bowrider and jet boat markets, along with a deterioration in the geopolitical environment," and "economic uncertainty tied to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which it said had contributed to slowing customer demand since March."
- Consolidation. Winnebago is "relocating operations to another plant in Middlebury and to Winnebago's main manufacturing complex in Forest City," the Des Moines Register reported.
- No reason given. "No reason was given for the closure," InkFreeNews reported of Forest River's Plant 63. Tiffin, Carry-On's Iowa plant and American Tugs gave none either.

What we counted
We read every RV, motorhome, boat and trailer manufacturing record in our file one by one against its source. We count a manufacturing site when its source says it closed, set a closing, was consolidated into another plant or went into liquidation in 2026. Consolidations and the liquidation are labeled. Each site is counted once.
We left out dealers, boats built outside the U.S., layoffs without a closing, closings from 2025, commercial freight-trailer plants and powersports plants. A closing date is printed only where a source states one.
These are named plants, not a measure of the industry. We don't hold a count of all U.S. plants, so we can't give a share or a rate.
This page will be updated as more closings are recorded. Each update will be dated in the changelog below.
